The British Academy of Fencing

It is with extreme sadness that I must inform you that Bob Anderson passed away peacefully this morning at 4 am in hospital. He was truly one of our greatest fencing masters and a world-class film fight director and choreographer and both the fencing community and film world will miss him. My heart felt sympathies and thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.

Will be greatly missed; it was truly on honour to have known and
to have taken lesson from Bob.

I had the privilege of meeting Bob Anderson once, when he did a demonstration of stage and film sword-fighting in Los Angeles. He created fights that enhanced the strengths of the performer, with the necessary tension to keep the viewer on the edge of his seat. From that time on, I was able to recognize his style in every film he worked on.
Fortunately, we can still learn from him, for he was featured in the documentary, "Reclaiming the Blade," which is widely available.
My sincere condolences to his family. He was true gentleman, professional, polite, and enthusiastic about his art. He will be missed, and remembered.

It is not often that we see many fencing masters nowadays. It is truly an art that is vanishing from our culture, whether English or American, or whatever.
I have been in many countries in my 68 years of life. I have seen the European masters, and their creations. Many have not been fortunate to see what I have. Life is full of what we experience. We have to "take off the blinders" and learn from life to truly experience it.
His passing is yet another person that gives meaning to life. I recognize his accomplishments and appreciate what he has left us with, a piece of his life and accomplishments.
Farewell and may the hereafter be providing you with comfort and tranquility.

I remember Bob having spent a fortnight being training with him. I admired him then and as for all the films etc, which I wish I could have been with him.
